Jeff, the boys and I were supposed to be in Palm Springs this weekend. Jeff's cousin, John, is getting married today. Despite how stressful it is to travel with toddlers, we had been looking forward to this trip for a while. It's always nice to get out of DC, but to go someplace with warm weather and almost constant sunshine is always a plus. I always like going to California because Jeff shows me all the places he used to go to when he was growing up. And now that we have kids, it's especially fun to travel down memory lane.
Unfortunately, the kids came down with a cold this week. They've had hacking coughs and congestion since Wednesday. Given Henry's history of status asthmaticus, his pediatrician was hesitant to say it was okay for us to fly cross-country. In fact, she said it's probably not a good idea and reminded me that airlines do not want sick people on flights. And since Drew is his identical twin, we're just as cautious with him. We've been doing their daily nebulizer treatments of pulmicort as well as albuterol every four hours. This would be tough to do while traveling. So, in DC we stayed.
Jeff spent most of Friday night calling and canceling our travel plans. We were lucky that we were able to get refunds for our flights, hotels, and rental car. His advice to everyone with kids, GET TRAVEL INSURANCE. It really helped us with the flights. And, apparently, sick kids trump a non-refundable policy for hotel and rental car reservations made through a travel site.
The bright side of this weekend is that the weather has been beautiful. We stayed inside yesterday because the kids were still coughing. However, they slept through the night last night and their coughing has eased up a little, so we went to the playground this morning. We had a great time. It is so nice out, I almost forgot we were supposed to be out in California. Almost.

Sorry to hear your vaca had to be canceled. It wasn't that beautiful here in Cali this weekend anyways :)
Glad to hear the boys are doing better.
