Mosquito bites

Lately, the mosquitoes around here have been ferocious. Although we've been pretty disciplined about putting on bug spray, like whenever we go to the park, it seems the kids are bitten during those times when we don't expect them to need repellent. It's not so bad for Henry, who may get a bite here and there, but it's terrible for Drew, who gets five bites for every one of Henry's. To top it off, Drew's bites turn into huge welts.

Last week, Drew got bitten on his right temple. Subsequently, his right eye swelled so much, he looked like he'd been in a fight with Pacquiao. After a little Benadryl and a few days, his eye returned to normal. On Friday, while we were standing outside of Karen's house waiting to walk to the diner, he got a mosquito bite on his left temple. Yesterday, his eye was swollen. And that is just one of the seven or eight bites that cover his body. The four bites on his left forearm make it look as though it belongs to Popeye.

Somehow, Drew reacts to bites the way I do and Henry reacts similarly to Jeff. I don't understand how this is possible. Aren't my kids identical?

Drew's swollen eye. Thanks a lot, mosquitoes. (The scratches are from last Thursday's swing incident.)
